Preparation:
- Overtightening can potentially damage any of these parts or the product.
Removing Upper/Top Port:
- Plug Removal: Use the provided large wrench to unscrew the plug by turning it counterclockwise.
- Nut Removal: Use the opposite end of the provided wrench to unscrew the large nut on the bulkhead fitting by turning it counterclockwise.
- Bulkhead Removal: After the nut is detached, press firmly against the bulkhead’s threads with your palm to push it through the barrel, then remove it entirely.
Installing New Upper/Top Port:
- Preparation: Remove the nut from the replacement bulkhead.
- Washer Positioning: Ensure the rubber washer’s smooth side is facing the smooth end of the bulkhead.
- Bulkhead Insertion: From inside the barrel, push the bulkhead through the port.
- Nut Attachment: While pressing against the bulkhead inside the barrel, screw the large nut onto the bulkhead clockwise until it’s finger-tight.
- Further Tightening: Use the provided tool to tighten the nut an additional 1/2 – 3/4 turn.
- Thread Tape Application: Apply 3-5 wraps of the provided thread tape to the plug’s threads, wrapping clockwise.
- Plug Installation: Screw the plug into the bulkhead and use the tool for final tightening.
For Bottom/Lower Bulkhead Assembly:
- Repeat the above steps, substituting the drain spout for the plug.
Pre-Filter Handling:
- After removing the bulkhead, unscrew the pre-filter by turning it counterclockwise and screw it back onto the new bulkhead clockwise. It only needs to be finger-tight.
